Artist Statement
As an African- American female my thoughts about the world require me to think with humor. Much like the famous saying, “you have to laugh to keep from crying” is why I am compelled to use humor. I would describe both myself and my work as perfectly imperfect because I tend to focus on a more sardonic view of the world that tends to be very grounded in technology, humor and race. I work mostly as a digital artist with a favorable attitude towards acrylic paint and oil pastels. Application of these materials is very simple and unsophisticated. I love the expressive quality of human hands and I use them to help bring character into my art. Having the look of human imperfection in my artwork really gives it that “handmade” personality. Overall, my subject matter and application of media really helps add a style and a personable feel to my art.
